Losing Weight on a Plant Based Diet

Plant based diets consists of fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and grains. It excludes all animal products like eggs, red meat, poultry, fish and dairy products.

If you struggle with weight, and love to eat, you may want to consider a plant based diet to help you lose weight and belly fat. Most fruits and vegetables contain high fiber which not only prevents type 2 diabetes and heart disease, fiber also gets you full faster and prevents you from overeating. Fiber digests slower in the stomach, this delay in stomach emptying will help you feel fuller longer, thus avoid unnecessary snacking in between meals.

Consuming high fiber cereal or oatmeal with berries is a great breakfast choice. For lunch consider consuming your favorite salad sprinkled with some pinto, black or garbanzo beans and nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans). For dinner, stir fry a variety of vegetables, and sprinkle some sunflower seeds. Following these simple steps will help you get rid of those extra pounds.

Most people are likely to stay compliant on a plant based diet because apart from the weight loss benefit, many feel better which makes it a long term sustainable way of eating. Remember, following a plant based diet does not mean you do not eat beef, it simply means at least 80% of your diet needs to be plant based.
